Skipton Waterways

Skipton Waterways Festival is a long standing event in the diary of many local canal boat owners and every year attracts visitors and boats from further afield. This year saw over twenty five

boats taking part on the Sunday night in the illuminated cruise and over the three days over twenty local music groups and acts put on a show of continuous live entertainment for visitors.

The band have played at many of the festivals over the years and the weather is always a huge part of the day. It may have been a May Bank Holiday weekend, but the heat of last year was quickly forgotten and jackets were out and players wrapped up warm. We almost made it through the afternoon without the audience needing to dive to for cover and it was only the last 10 minutes where the rain came down and our gazebo became a very popular destination for many festival goers – despite the fact we were also under it continuing to play.

The festival attracts a wide range of visitors, from those who make the journey especially to attend one or all of the three days to those who happen upon it by chance. The three day festival itself takes a lot of hard work and organisation and much of this is done by Zoe from Pennine Cruisers and she and her team including the town centre wardens, the local cadets and the local police deserve a special mention for making everything run so smoothly.

We are looking forward to seeing you again next year – hopefully with a few degrees more of heat.
