Gateway Brass

Welcome to the website area for Gateway Brass – the development band for Skipton Brass.

Formed in June 2013, the band is based at Skipton Academy and rehearses on Monday evenings between 6pm and 7pm – currently under the guidance of Jo Barber.

Aims of Gateway Brass

Our service provides individual and small group learning experiences which will include both practical instruction and tuition in the rudiments of music theory. There will be opportunities for the group to both perform separately and to accompany Skipton Brass at public engagements as part the holistic approach to the acquisition of an individual’s musical skills. Members will be coached with a view to them eventually joining our senior band once the required standard for progression has been reached.

Our aim is to create a fun and exciting environment for people to learn a new skill, become a member of a friendly local organisation, and in turn help to keep the great tradition of brass banding alive in Skipton and Craven District.

Band Membership

Membership is open to people of all ages who are interested in learning a brass instrument.

A number of student instruments have been acquired & will be made available for the exclusive use of Gateway Brass.

Contributions to the running costs of Gateway Brass, we be met from subscriptions from its members. Our current rates have been structured to be affordable and in line with similar local clubs and organisations. Some of our more experienced Gateway players often sit in for the start of the main band rehearsal and have been working on their own piece to play out with us at a concert in the future.

Band Subs

As members of Gateway Brass are automatically members of Skipton Brass, we ask for a small contribution towards the running cost of the band.

Family discount options are available – please contact us to discuss.
