It’s not every day you work out how many years of experience the top two players on the front row have, but I’m sure for most bands it is double figures but for us today the answer was a staggering 140!

With players away on holiday, our usual front row needed a bit of rearranging today but stepping up wasn’t an issue for the two youngsters who took on the challenge of leading the band between them. They both have a wealth of playing experience with various bands including playing with Skipton on more than one occasion  throughout their playing careers. Wilbur may have also played bass and horn along the way but for Brian it’s always been the cornet and for those of you who know him you will also know about his rather well worn mouth piece!

I wont reveal their exact ages for now but remember I mentioned 140 years of experience between them. Both assured me they both love playing just as much now as they did when they first started and they’ve always been good friends and they put some of that down to their years banding together.

Today’s Waterways Festival was a huge success and the number of visitors Image may contain: 3 people, people on stage, people playing musical instruments and outdoorwas much higher than in previous years- maybe because of the appearance of the big yellow thing in the sky! The festival is on for three days and  Skipton really pulls out all the stops when it comes to the entertainment. Today involved ourselves obviously as a traditional Yorkshire Brass Band, but also appearing were the Big Easy Band playing their amazing swing with the added accompaniment of live dancers showing off their moves on the dancefloor in front of the stage. The rest of the weekend is packed full of live music and entertainment and involves many other local singers and groups, including the ever popular pipe bands.
